They say if you truly love someone, you let them go.
Well, not quite.
The truth is that the person never belonged to you in the first place. What you are letting go of is the idea that one human can have ownership over another.
Ownership of this type covers a wide spectrum, from overt slavery to covert influence over the wellbeing of another.
The former is ostensibly malevolent and the latter is ostensibly benevolent. Both are forms of control.
Paradoxically, the more you can let go of the idea of ownership and belonging between humans, the deeper, closer, more authentic and more egalitarian your connections with others can be.
