It is an act of violence to bestow a gift upon a recipient without their permission.
When you find yourself yearning to help someone, pause to ask: is this for their benefit, or for mine?
If you didn’t request the gift, you’re under no obligation to the donor.
You might feel great warmth towards the donor and a desire to reciprocate, but that is very different from obligation.
Donors and recipients
Remember that every act of benevolence is bidirectional. The donor is a recipient of equal magnitude, and the recipient is a donor of equal magnitude.
