The rantings of a bigot are nothing more than a cry for help.
When the bigot is being bigoted, he or she is enunciating to the world:
This level of complexity in my life is more than I can handle. I need pattern abstraction to feel safe.
In theory, the long-term solution to the bigotry of a bigot is, therefore, neither counterbigotry nor resistance, it is the provision of deep psychological safety.
In practice this is, unfortunately, not always welcomed or even possible.
Because we don’t know when it will be possible and welcomed, and when it won’t be, we hold the hope and work for the best outcome.
