(A traditional Oriental story, as retold in The Magic of Metaphor).
A devout merchant drove his Mercedes hundreds of miles across the deserts to worship with a Holy Man. When he arrived he parked his car outside the simple lodging and entered to embark on a week of study. He fasted, meditated, and prayed for seven days and nights, fully surrendering himself to the power of almighty God.
But when he looked for his car afterwards, he discovered it was no longer where he had left it. He searched everywhere, but his Mercedes was nowhere to be seen. He complained bitterly to the Holy Man. "Look how I have been let down. I have spent days and nights worshipping, and see how God treats me!"
The Holy Man smiled and said: "Trust in God and tie your camel securely."
