Helping vs fixing
Occasionally I offer hypnotic suggestion for my clients. This is always with their full consent and participation.
In clinical hypnosis I titrate my approach, moment by moment, in response to the minimal non-verbal cues from my client and in the wider context of my knowledge of them as an individual. In this way the approach is bespoke and potent.
Some clients become interested in hypnosis after hearing audio recordings from a CD or an app. They often notice a different experience from the audio recordings than from live hypnosis.
This is because audio recordings, whilst useful if done well, are one size fits all. They are an off-the-shelf product, offered predominantly to the listener rather than created with the listener.
This highlights an important philosophical standpoint in my work. I never work on my clients, I only ever work with them. It’s a matter of ethics, respect and efficacy.
